Modern fashions make it easier than ever to appear more slender, no matter what size you are. Here are ten instant ways to appear thinner just by making small changes to the way you dress.

Dress According to Your Body Type
The type of clothes that will be most slenderizing will depend on your particular body type. Are you heavier on the top or on the bottom? Are you an hourglass or are you fairly straight from your shoulders to your knees? Once you have taken an inventory of your pluses and minuses, it is just a matter of emphasizing the positive and deemphasizing the negative.

Here are some tips for each body type.

If you are heavier on the top:
Choose tops with a loose fit, which then slim down to hug the hips and waist.

Opt for thin fabrics, such as cotton or cotton jersey, which are less likely to add bulk.

Create the illusion of length by sticking to one color, down to the shoes.

Choose long jackets without shoulder pads.

Try a pleated skirt to bring the eye down to your lower half, and do not be afraid of shorter hem lengths.

If you are heavier on the bottom:
Even out your frame with small shoulder pads.

Wear dark pants or stockings.

Experiment with vertical lines and patterns.

Wear long tops that go past your hips.

Wear prints only on the top.

Look for jackets, tailored suits and shirtwaist dresses with straight, classic cuts.

If you are not so curvy:
Add dimension with patterns.

Try loose flowery clothing and draw attention towards your face with colorful earrings and Scarves.

If you are an hourglass:
Wear fabrics that show off your figure by draping loosely.

Emphasize your waist with a belt.

Show off some cleavage with a V neck.

Celebrate your curves. Lots of women would love to be voluptuous. I, for one, encourage you to flaunt it (at the level you feel comfortable doing so, of course.)

Slenderizing Tips for all Body Types:

Stand tall, elongate your neck, and square your shoulders. Good posture and proper breathing are two of the quickest ways you can look and feel good, whether you are a size 2 or size 22.

Instead of covering your neck with turtleneck tops and sweaters, which can make your face look wider, opt for V neck tops and dresses that enhance your facial features.
Straight legged pants tend to create a leaner look than flared bell bottoms.

If you are 5 feet 4 and under, look for dresses that hit just above or at the knee.

Empire waists create a clean, elongated look.

Experiment with eye catching jewelry and accessories.

To create the illusion of length, think monochromatic. If you have a black outfit, for example, and you wear a white belt, you have just broken the smooth, lean line and created the illusion of bulk. To minimize this effect, wear a dark belt and dark stockings with a dark outfit. Of course, it is no fun to dress all in one color (unless it is fuschia), so this is one rule that is meant to be broken. You can add funky accessories, such as handbags and shoes, while maintaining the illusion of length.

Be careful with pleated pants, which tend to add bulk to the mid section.

Try an A line. “A line” dresses have always been at the top of the list for hiding those areas that cause the most concern for women.

When choosing a swimming suit, there are lots of chic styles available now that come with a skirt. If you feel more comfortable concealing your hips and thighs, do so. I started wearing a skirted suit years ago, and I love no longer feeling self conscious at the pool or the beach. Plus, it gives me the flexibility to be active in my suit (which usually entails chasing my kids) without worrying about exposing myself.

Wear proper undergarments. There was a time when women had great difficulty finding appropriately sized bras, but today there is a wide variety of sexy undergarments for all women who want to feel sensuous and comfortable. Plenty of specialty stores will help you find just the right bra or even have your bra custom sized. Undergarments that fit right will make all the difference in your look, and they can really help you to feel more comfortable in the skin you are in.

makeup tips for the pam anderson or carmen electra look?
I want to know how to apply my makeup to achieve the glamorous look that pam anderson or carmen electra , and jenny mcarthy have. If you have any tips on how I can get this look or where online I can go maybe a website or something with step by step application, any tips on how to get the big hair would be helpful also! I love the big hair but can never seem to get it right. thank you! I have a ton of makeup and am gonna try fake eye lashes today since for some reason during my pregnancy they thinned out and I love thick eyelashes. My baby shower is today and so I wanted to get really dressed up. thanx!
I think people are getting the wrong idea lol… just the makeup and the hair I like I have small boobs and brown hair I don't want to look like them I just want to achieve a look similar to that.
I think angelina jolie has a kinda 1940's look sometimes thats more the look I'm going for pin up girls, not in the sex symbol way I'm about to be a mother for God sakes and I dress very modest I have flat hair I want some volume nothin' wrong with that . I don't wanna look like a porn star I just want the glamour look that like someone said catherine zeta jone has or angelina, I think nicole kidman has it. maybe carmen and pam were bad examples.

slap a whole load of makeup on, shave your eyebrows and draw them on with eye liner, and chicken fillets in your boobies and hardly wear anything.

Going to a baby shower looking like Pam Anderson or Carmen Electra isn't a great idea… In my opinion, you'd look a lot better with a natural, fresh look. A lot of people get the wrong idea when they look at people like them because they are sex symbols and known for some things that aren't very great. Big boobs, bleach blonde hair and loads of makeup is something that never looks natural no matter how hard one may try. But, if you still want to go for it, here's what you can do:

Face: Use a liquid foundation and blend everywhere to make sure that you have opaque, full coverage. You don't want any discoloration on your face. Use a bronzed mauve blush on your cheeks, and blend upward towards your hairline.

Eyes: Use a lavender or silver shade of shadow all over the lid, and then pick a darker, complimentary shade to put in the crease. Line your eyes with black liquid liner on the top, getting thicker as you get to the outer lash line. Bring the line out a bit on each side, making it point slightly upward like cat eyes. On your lower lid, line with a black pencil instead. Apply mascara on the lower lashes. Finish with false eye lashes on the top, or loads of mascara.

If you like the more smokey-eyed Pamela, try dark grey shadow with a very dark (almost black) color in the crease. Do the liner and mascara the same as instructed above.

Lips: Try the VivaGlam lipglasses and lipsticks from MAC. Pamela is famous for wearing them. If not, get a mauve pink shade, or a pinky brown and line with an earthy pink liner such as Subculture from MAC, as well. Don't forget the lip liner. Pam uses it all the time.

Body: A push-up bra is a must for any breast size while going for this look. Cleavage sets the entire idea. Also, a self tanner or softly tanned skin will help.

Brows: Go really thin with your brows, making a high arch. Fill in any sparse areas with an eyebrow pencil.

EDIT: Yes, I guess Pam and Carmen were bad examples, haha. :) Here's Angelina's sexy look instead:

Face: Use a mineral makeup for your entire face, blending nicely for medium to full coverage. Apply a peachy shade of blush on your cheekbones, blending upward towards the hairline to accentuate.

Eyes: Lightly dust your lids with a mocha shade of brown, adding some of the same color into the crease. Take a light champagne shade and blend just underneath your eyebrow to open your eyes. Line the top and bottom lashes with liquid liner, fanning the liner upward as you reach the outer lashes. Finish with a bit of mascara.

Lips: Clear, shiny gloss looks fresh and accentuates your natural lip color. It also shows that you are sophisticated and aren't too made up.

Ha Ha Ha !!! I totally agree with Lauren. There are a lot of glamourous actresses out there who don't need any make-up to look good. Monica Bellucci, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Angelina Jolie, Natalia Portman, Aishwarya Rai, etc. Be yourself, you'll look good !!!

They use gold tone make up and appear to stay tanned or to use bronzes. Since you are pregnant I would go for a spray on tan. For the hair, apply a strong hold mousse at the roots right after washing it and then pull in all the way through to the roots and roll in up on the largest rollers you can find and blow it dry while on the rollers and leave it up as long as you can. Spray hairspray on it while it is still up. When you take it down, don't brush it out. Just run your fingers through it and mess it up a bit and bring some around your face to soften it.
Also, on the make up…use eyeliner after you put on the false eyelashes to hide the glue line. Use a lighter color shimmery color on the lid (pink) and a darker color (warm bronze) in the crease and bring it up half way then use a brush to brush out the line and bring the the outside corners up just a bit. Try the powder bronze from Estee Lauder. It's great for bronzing and eyeshadow. I love make-up and I use it all the time and get tons of compliments on my eyes. Lighter colors of lipstick work better with the tanner complexions. I use pinks. Reds and darker just make the look harsh instead of sexy. Use shimmery pink colors. Use the stay on shimmery lip glosses as well. Use bronze under your cheek bones and be sure to blend it well so it doesn't look like a racing stripe. That should do it!
