im just starting to knit, and i want to knit a scarf.
With size 11 needles how many stitches would i need to make a nice scarf, when wearing it i want it to go to my waist. so it be nice to get answers, and different types of beginner scarf styles with the number of stitches. thnaks so much ;)

When I learned to knit the first thing I knit was a sweater that had color changes in the middle of the pattern. The reason I am mentioning this is that I found a pattern that is just beautiful and the only thing you will have to do is follow the instructions or e-mail me for help. The pattern can be made with any size needle as she mentioned and as far as the length is that would be up to you to stop when it is long enough for you. If you don't want to try this let me know and I will search more for you.

It really depends on how *you* want it. :) I always just knit a number of stitches, stretch them out on the needle to get an idea of how wide it's going to be, and then go from there.

Depending on how you want it to hang to your waist- is it wrapped around your neck once, or twice, or is it just more across your shoulders and hanging down? And then you could try measuring with a tape measurer, or just knit along and try it on as you go. Just make sure you have enough skeins of the yarn you're using beforehand! You want your skeins to be from the same dye lot, and even though some of the brands, like Red Heart, say that they aren't lot specific, you can find quite the variation in the same color and lot number sometimes.

    Good luck!

It depends on the type of yarn you use.A heavier yarn, like homespun, will take less stiches than red heart. It also depends on how wide you want to make it.
