Hmmmm… Basket Stitch would make a light and lacy scarf. Here's what you do.

Row 1- Knit 2, Purl 2 (repeat for the entire row)

Row 2 – Purl 2, Knit 2 (repeat for the entire row)

Repeat these 2 rows for the length of your scarf!

    Hope this helps…Happy Knitting!

There are only a few patterns that look good on a scarf. It has to look good from both sides, and it needs to lay flat. So that limits it quite a bit.

Whatever you do, you will need to use the same number of knits and purls, and on both sides. Rib is good, garter stitch, seed stitch, moss stitch, basket weave stitch. If you are using a great colour, use a very simple stitch. Everything is easy — when you know how.

What kind of yarn are you using? and for what season?
Yes a reversible pattern is preferable. I like to use a simple lace pattern, YO, K2tog with a knit stitch on each end. You can do that for every row or mix it up with rows of knitting.
